Hello Residents,
With freezing temperatures expected this week, we would like to share important reminders to help reduce the risk of frozen pipes, water damage, and other weather-related issues. This list is not all-inclusive, and some items may not apply to every home or community. Residents are encouraged to take any additional reasonable precautions as needed.
HOW TO HELP PREVENT FROZEN PIPES
- Disconnect and drain garden hoses.
- Cover exterior hose bibs and outdoor faucets with insulating covers.
- Ensure sprinkler and irrigation systems are turned off and winterized, if applicable.
- When temperatures are expected to remain at or below freezing, allow one faucet on an exterior wall to drip slowly (a steady drip, not a stream). Running water can help prevent pipes from freezing.
- Keep cabinet doors open beneath sinks located on exterior walls to allow warm air to circulate around plumbing.
- Insulate exposed pipes where accessible using foam pipe insulation.
- Maintain heat inside your home or unit at all times during freezing temperatures, even if you are away.
WINTER WEATHER PREPARATION – INSIDE THE HOME
- Cover or remove window air-conditioning units, if applicable.
- Set ceiling fans to low speed in reverse (clockwise when looking up) to help circulate warm air.
- Inspect fireplaces and chimneys before use, and ensure they are safe and clean prior to operation.
WINTER WEATHER PREPARATION – OUTSIDE THE HOME
- Bring potted plants indoors.
- Cover outdoor plants with insulating materials during freezing temperatures, and remove coverings once temperatures rise above freezing.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Residents are responsible for protecting plumbing, fixtures, and systems serving their home or unit.
- If you observe frozen pipes, water leaks, or water intrusion, please notify property management immediately so the issue can be addressed promptly and to help prevent further damage.
Thank you for your cooperation and for taking proactive steps to protect your home and community.
